What is the Wisdom Body? No, its not more 'special' labeling for those in the know...Promise!

The 'wisdom body' is that part of yourself that is always pure and connected to your innate wisdom. It’s the part of us that knows right from wrong, how to care about others, instilling life, integrity, compassion and deep survival skills, when they are called upon. These are the attributes that support health and happiness in a sustainable way.

This series will be an opportunity to check in with those parts of ourselves that have always known we were good and that we belonged, that we have a particular and unique purpose... even though our experiences may have created a strong layer of dullness covering that essential Truth.

Nina Be will have just returned from an Intensive Training with Master Teacher Sri Dharma Mittra, so this will be potent on many levels. We will use the breath, yoga, writing, creative movement and discussion to fortify new positive language for our Path to transforming trauma into a powerful life!

*WORKSHOP* ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE: ANATOMY OF THE UPPER BODY W/ rachel niketopoulos (120 MIN)

SUNDAY july 23 :: 2-4 PM

The Alexander Technique is a way of learning to move mindfully through life. The Alexander process shines a light on inefficient habits of movement and patterns of accumulated tension, which interferes with our innate ability to move easily and according to how we are designed. It’s a simple yet powerful approach that offers the opportunity to take charge of one’s own learning and healing process, because it’s not a series of passive treatments but an active exploration that changes the way one thinks and responds in activity. It produces a skill set that can be applied in every situation. 

The main focus in this workshop for the upper body will be on the spine (what it is, what it does, where it is, how it moves), the anatomy of breathing, and learning how to think about your ribs in a different way that is freeing for the whole torso and arms. The workshop is open to all levels. There will be some movement, so make sure to wear something comfortable.

Join us for the auspicious practice of 108 Sun Salutations! Suggested donation $10-20. All proceeds benefit building and sustaining the Ingrid School in the Matopeni slums of Nairobi, Kenya.

We break it up into 4 sets of 27. Each set is led by a Global Breath teacher. Some sets are traditional. Some are creative. They're all fun! We crank up the music and take care of business.

*WORKSHOP* HEART OPENING BACKBENDS W/ NINA, BART & bridget (120 MIN)

Sunday, JULY 30 :: 2-4 PM

Back bends support a healthy heart. Many yoga students miss out on the benefits of powerful back bends, because they are afraid of getting hurt. This stands to reason, as opening the front of the body releases lots of energy that can build up when we protect ourselves by armoring the loving heart.

This fun 2 hour 'playshop' will equip you with accurate anatomical information about the spine, and its connection to the physical, mental and energetic exuberant expression of the heart.

After a warm up Asana practice focusing on strength and finding center, we will explore various forms of back bends, including Ustrasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana and Pincha Mayurasana.

It is best that all students have had a consistent yoga practice for at least one year when participating. If you suffer from spine injuries, or have blood pressure issues, please make sure to confer with your doctor before participating.

*WORKSHOP* INVERSIONS - becoming fearless (with nina, bart & bridget)

SUNDAY, AUGUST 6 :: 2-4 pm

 

The most effective and powerful postures of Yoga are inversions. Inversions build fearlessness, strength, tenacity and inner wisdom. The anti-ageing effects of inversions are profound, and they do wonders for most folks in fighting disease. 

After a 30 minute MBCY Asana practice, we will explore beginner to intermediate handstands and forearm stands. We will finish by exploring the 'king' and 'queen' of inversions: shoulder stand and headstand. If you are curious about Inversions, or just plain determined to arrest the aging process, please come join us as we guide you safely into your self-confidence and fearlessness!

Due to the intensity of this workshop, participation is prohibited in you suffer from discomfort in the spine, neck or head, or have blood pressure issues. At least 2 years of yoga experience is required.
